Ideas for Usability Improvements

Post by mark.bramnik »

Hi Guys, first off, thanks for the great product you make and for your constant efforts to improve it.
I have pa5x, and I understand that some features are not available for it, but I have a couple of ideas which I hope you can consider for future versions.

1. Pa5x allows treating style files (I don't know about previous models TBH, this is my first korg) just like Yamaha does - one file per style, so I thought maybe you can adjust the PA Manager to be able to work with 1 single file - the workflow I have in mind:
- I copy the style file from Pa5X to PC.
- I open the file directly in PA Manager
- I edit the file, save it, and copy it back to Korg.
Of course I could "mimic" this behavior by creating an artificial KST folder with "Styles" folder in it, copy the style there, and then opening a KST in pamanager, but since korg seem to shift from the paradigm of styles being placed in the USER bank, I thought maybe you could also allow this mode of work. I believe it's convenient for style editing-related workflows.

2. In the "Style Properties" window consider adding a "Play" Button to play all the tracks together. Currently, this function is available from the "main window" which shows all the styles when the whole set is loaded, however, it's only for variations (Right Click on Style -> Play Variation) - when you select into/ending - it opens up a style property window

3. Event Editor:
When editing velocity for multiple notes (select the velocity tab and draw a line), an undo option (Ctrl+Z) is not available

4. Event List:
Consider making it a powerful tool for editing by providing filters, multiple selection, and editing (quantization, velocity changes, etc), moving events back and forth (for instance, move all the events 1/8 note forward)

5. Event Editor - maximize screen function doesn't open it to the full screen (I've got a laptop with Windows 11 and have 1920X1080 resolution)

Thank you again and have a great weekend

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your input.

1. As much as KORG has shifted from the User Bank method, the Styles are still inside a .KST/STYLE structure. Perhaps we could rethink the workflow a little to allow Drag & Drop of Styles from a Folder in to the PA Manager. Perhaps this would work for those using Styles with FACTORY sounds only.
However, for those users that are using UserSounds and Samples, this would not be a beneficial option as there are so many samples/sounds interlinked. Hence why the WHOLE SET needs to be loaded for a clean operation.

2. This is already available if you enter inside Style Properties and RIGHT CLICK on any Variation. This would allow you to Play the variation.

3. Event Editor - Undo / Redo is available via the EDIT Menu.

4. Most of these are already available / possible. Although in the upcoming v5.2 there are further enhancements added.

5.Maximizing the Window does maximize it, but the width is still locked to a certain aspect ratio and only the Height is being maximized.

Feel free to post back any additional comments and suggestions.

Why waste your resources on Event editor, or similar features. Pa manager can not replace DAW. People will use Cubase or Cakewalk for event or midi editing. Its lot easier and more convenient. You should focus on features only related to PA series something that 3rd party DAW's can not do.

We're not trying to replace a DAW. If you prefer using Cubase or Cakewalk, by all means continue doing so. No one is forcing you to use the Event Editor.

However, not every user has access to a full DAW, and for many, having a built-in editor is a major convenience. You should be pleased that we’re offering such a feature — it's an added bonus, not a replacement.

PA Manager already offers many other features that no other software can do.

If it’s not for you, simply don’t use it. But posting negative comments about features that others might find useful isn’t helpful or constructive.
